| mrnafe03:14 UTC13 Mar 2010 | Hey, I am looking for the BEST transport from NADI to Waya Island. We will be going to Octopus resort. I know they have a boat but i've heard the Yasawa Flyer is much smoother. Problem is it looks like you have to buy a 7 day pass which is $215 (we are staying in Waya Island 4 nights) but is this the only option?
anything would help, thank you!

| Taimarilyn10:29 UTC13 Mar 2010 | The Yasawa Flyer last year cost FJ$100 one way to Octopus. You can definitely book just the single trip. Octopus now have a new boat which I understand is a much smoother ride but I haven't been on it myself yet.

| mrnafe14:19 UTC13 Mar 2010 | thank you both very much!
2 more quick ones:
-
is there any reason i would want the "unlimited" boat pass? would i want to ride around on the flyer to check out other islands or is that to difficult?
-
does anybody know if the octopus boat is faster than the flyer or are there any benefits. i'm not in a "hurry" to get to octopus and would rather enjoy a nice cruise rather than beeline it to waya so i assume the flyer is my best choice? thanks again

| smandkjc20:25 UTC13 Mar 2010 | If the Flyer is $100 each way to Octopus and the 7 day pass is $215 it sounds like a no brainer to get the pass and use it to visit other islands or resorts.

| Taimarilyn21:57 UTC13 Mar 2010 | The Octopus boat is faster - takes less than an hour, and leaves from Vuda Marina - closer to Lautoka. They have a taxi van which will pick you up from your Nadi accommodation. They have 2 trips a day (9am and 1pm) which could save you a night in Nadi if you have a flight that does not allow you to catch the Yasawa Flyer att 8.30am. It is a much smaller boat. The Flyer leaves Denarau (Nadi) at 8.30am, and does a round trip up the Yasawas, turning at Nacula around 1pm and getting back to Nadi around 6pm. It stops at all resorts along the way in both directions.
If you are not in a hurry, and the 7 day pass is the price you quoted, then I'd suggest you go past Octopus on the outward trip, and get off there on the return trip. That way you would get a look at all the islands. On the outward trip the Flyer gets to Octopus around 11am, and on the return trip it is there around 3pm. Just make sure the boat staff understand what you are doing - if there were no-one else getting on or off the boat at Octopus they just might sail on by!

| Taimarilyn22:01 UTC13 Mar 2010 | I just checked the Flyer website - looks to me like the 7 day pass is $309, not $215. Where did you find that price?

| mrnafe13:59 UTC14 Mar 2010 | that's a good point, i could use the trip on the flyer to check out everything and just get off o the way back.
that being said i'm goinig to see about my flight back from savusavu, right now we leave at 1400 and get the Nadi at 1500 but i'm going to call monday and see if i can change to ean earlier flight...woulud be nice to spend extra day at octopus vice nadi i'm sure...
thanks again!

| karlo00:18 UTC19 Mar 2010 | Even Octopuses old boat was pleasant enough, with a big covered area if it gets rough, and an open aft area if it doesn't. It's more of a dedicated working boat than the tourist-exclusive luxury-bus Flyer. It's safe and fast.

| stephanemth03:31 UTC23 Mar 2010 | Note that from the Flyer, you only have a general view of the islands. As it is a big boat, it is doesn't go to shore or pontoons. All the travellers embarking and disembarking the flyer are taken to shore by smaller boats. However i agree it is a very good way to see all the islands, their size, location and settings. And also to talk to other travellers who are hoping islands. What most people do, is either start at the top of the yasawas and work their way down; or start at the bottom (South Sea Island or Mana), get feedback from travellers finishing their trip soon and carry one depending on these feedbacks.
Enjoy your holiday.

| Taimarilyn05:35 UTC23 Mar 2010 | While we've got stephanemth here - can you tell us why your website doesn't quote prices in FJ$ any more?

| thurstonhowell4th01:01 UTC25 Mar 2010 | trouble with trying to pick an island by seeing them on the way up is they all look so good and you soon forget which is which (and you may need to book some in advance if its a busy period), and that said you can only really make a rushed run on the boat but the best thing is not the boat but chilling on whatever island, and at the current exchange rate nothing is dirt cheap but no too dear either really

| stephanemth21:51 UTC28 Mar 2010 | Good Morning Taimarilyn, Sorry i didn't reply to you earlier, I was surfing other pages when you send your message. We introduced several other currencies (7 all together) to make it easier for our customers. We wanted to be more professional by offering the currency used in the country of purchase as many travellers find it easier to deal with their own currency.
As I can already see the next question: How do we deal with the currency fluctuation? Since last year, we have seen many currencies going up and some other going down, the Fijian dollar being devaluated, ...; It is a challenge for us to make sure that all our customers don't suffer from these changes so we are modifying the online rates and brochures rates several times a year to make sure all the prices in different currencies are worth the same. We are also currently working toward a system which will help to be more responsive when fluctuation occurs.
Best Regards Stephane

| Taimarilyn04:27 UTC29 Mar 2010 | Thank you Stephane - maybe I'm just very confused - but it seems to me if you set your prices in FJ$ we would all do just what we do when we buy anything in Fiji - do our own conversions at the time if it's important. Why do you have to quote in other currencies at all? I find it so easy to use on online conversion table when I'm doing bookings etc and I'm sure others do the same. It would be interesting to know what others think. Regards Marilyn
