Buying LP PNG Solomon Islands in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I have another question. Since I am heading to the Solomons, I ordered the relevant LP from Amazon. Well I did not realize that they were out of stock and couldn't deliver immediately. Consequently I am leaving tomorrow and don't have a guide for the Solomons. I will have three day transit time in Fiji where I will have a chance to buy it if it is available. Does anyone know of a bookstore carrying it in the Nadi/Lautoka area where I will be staying? Thanks.

I think you have little chance of picking up this book. In many trips to Lautoka, I saw nothing resembling a bookshop that might stock it. Nadi had a couple of areas with books inside bigger stores but, from memory, not a wide range of travel books. Slight chance at Nadi airport. Many, many years since I've been in Honiara but as a general rule, I hardly ever see a local LP guide in smaller places. Try your hardest to pick it up - even second hand and/or previous issue - before you leave.

The university bookstore in Suva stocks LP guides.
If you are desperate enough to bus across Viti Levu to buy them there, it would be worth calling them first to ask if that particular title is on stock at the time of your visit, of course!
Tried ordering it directly from LP through their online shop? They tend to deliver pretty fast.
Otherwise, order the digital version, then print it out. It could also save you quite a bit if you only need the few pages on the Solomons...

I agree with Laszlo - it is much easier to buy the relevant chapters from the website. The whole book would be a waste of time, unless you are planning a trip to PNG some time soon.

Thanks for your replies. I landed in Honiara sans guidebook but met a Dutch guy there on business at the hotel and borrowed his LP.

The University Bookshop in Suva is the only decent bookshop in the country, followed by the Suva Museum Giftshop.
