Camping in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi, me and my lovie and our 18 month old daughter are traveling to Fiji in October and would like to stay in our tent, can anyone recommend backpacker accommodations that allow tents and also the best way to stay with the locals...Thanks, Moch

With a child camping's a poor idea-Bure accommodation is only a little more money-think of the child.

"the best way to stay with the locals"

This might work

1

the child loves camping, we dont object to Bures but like to pitch the canvas...

google for caqalai. very local experience on one of fijis most beautyfull corall islandsa and a paradise for kids

Yes Caqelai. I stayed there. The cheapest resort island in Fiji.
I also camped at Mumu's near Savu Savu (excellent spot) and on the beach at Beverly's in Matei, Taveuni.

Several backpackers' resorts on the Yasawas also allow camping - it's usually just a bit cheaper than a dorm bed.

5

or Leleuvia across from Caqalai, a slightly larger island. Many backpacker places I saw had no problems with tents, especially if you bought into their meal plan anyway.

Thanks everyone
