Christmas in Fiji?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi, I am in the planning stages of my travels and I am trying to tweak my dates so that I make the most of each country I am going to. I originally planned to meet some friends for Christmas and New Year in Sydney but now I am hoping to extend my time in Asia. My main question is has anyone spent Christmas in Fiji? I may end up there over the Christmas period if I change my flights and just wondering what I can expect!?

Thanks

Expect most local businesses (those not catering to tourists) to close down, and in general, towns/cities to be rather quiet.
Like in most majority Christian countries, I simply found Christmas in Fiji to be a boring period to get over.
Of course if you are a religious Christian, you could always join the locals flocking to church...
Otherwise, you could simply plan to be somewhere touristy, like on the Yasawas or in any beach resort, where activities should largely go on as usual.
