Coral Coast - small resorts?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi All,

My husband and I are going to Fiji for two weeks in July. We've settled in on 5 nights at Octopus Resort on Waya, then to Levuka for 3 nights at Levuka Homestay, and from there plan to go from Suva to the Coral Coast to stay for the last leg of our trip. We don't want a big resort, but do want a beachfront bure somewhere with a nice beach, snorkeling, and walking distance to some restaurants. We definitely want to do a river trip and some other sightseeing in the area (not just sit on the beach). We tend to like things a little bit quite and look for a bargain whenever possible. Our upper limit on cost is F$200 per night. I'm leaning toward the Sigatoka area over Korolevu. The Crow's Nest looks like it might fit the bill. Can anyone tell me if it's a nice place? Any other recommendations that sound like they'd be a good fit for us? We really appreciate any input!

Also, we're really into GOOD food... any recommendations for dining in the area?

Thanks in advance!
~ Beth

Crow's Nest is not on the beach. It is across the road from a narrow strip of beach dotted with rocks. Therefore their cottages are not beachfront. Tubakula Beach Bungalows have beach bungalows for under $200. Nothing fancy, but basic and clean, and it is a quiet kind of place. As for good food, gourmet food isn't really available in Fiji, but there are certainly expensive restaurants to be had at Outrigger (next to Tubakula and Crows Nest) and Shangri-La. Whether it will be worth the high cost I couldn't say...I think not but maybe you would feel differently.

I agree. Crows Nest is not what Id call a "nice place". Its ok, but ordinary.

Good and reasonably priced Indian food can be had in the town of Sigatoka. There is (or was) a Chinese restaurant just outside the ShangriLa

Check out Hideaway. They may be in your price range. Remember, it's called the Coral Coast for a reason, not the best beaches. Make sure you do the Upper Navua when doing your river trip.

Bula.

Ashyana in Nadi town for outstanding Indian cuisine.
