Coral Coast

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi All,

We are looking for some input about conditions in January, some friends were in the Yasawas last February and said the water was rough and murky most of the time, (possibly due to the earthquake in NZ), is this normal for wet season? We would like to explore the islands but would be disappointed if the snorkeling was not great.

Also, what are the thoughts on the Coral Coast, we like the idea of having the option of moving around and seeing different sights and maybe jet boating and rafting.

Thanks in advance for those who respond.

The beaches, water clarity, and snorkelling are mediocre at best along the Coral Coast, even at the best time of year - and the Coral Coast is one of the better parts of the mainland. You need to go to the smaller islands to get the postcard-esque scenery.

The only thing you can't do on the smaller islands is go rafting, but there are plenty of alternatives to keep a person active.

Check out Natadola Beach, it is at the start of the Coral Coast, only 45 min south of Nadi. There are 3 separate resorts and it has the best beach on the mainland. Any tours or days trips can be done from here, including going to any other islands for the day.
