Day trips from DenarauCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi guys, We're off to Fiji for the first time (can't wait to be warm!) in 2 weeks from now. The only reason we're staying at Denarau is my Dad has an apartment there that we'll be staying in. I believe from talking with my Dad and also from what I've read on here that "pool-hopping" between the resorts is both an acceptable and OK way to pass a day or so, but we also want to get out and see some beautiful islands and beaches. A quick search on here leads me to believe that Bounty Island is quite closeby, but can anyone give me some ideas as to where else we could escape to for day trips (preferably involving some snorkelling and a couple of choices of places to eat while there) from Denarau? We're only going for a week if that's any help. We plan to check out the markets in Nadi (apartment has fully equipped kitchen and we like to cook so keen to get our hands on local produce etc).....just looking for some ideas if anyone can help please.
Places to eat - the hotels at Denerau all have great but expensive restaurants. There are 4 or 5 places that are less dear though not very cheap at the Port Denerau incl 2 or 3 with good water views. In Nadi there are a number of places - those near the fresh food market tend to be cheapest especially Chinese or Indian. We particularly enjoyed those near the corner of Main and Hospital Sts - I forget the name. | 1
Hi, I am also going to Denarau for 2 weeks. We will be there over xmas. I was also hoping to get some suggestions on day trips from Denarau, besides Nadi which we already plan to do. Maybe some info on Bounty Island, Castaway Island, or the Wales Tales Tour? Thanks! | 2
I suggest you get on the Flyer and go to one of the Yasawa islands at least for a couple of days, there are plenty of inexpensive places to stay. You can identify the lodges and a bit about the islands online or in a book to choose one. Nadi is not a resort town, it's dirty and busy, and about 2 hours was enough for me. A week is plenty of time to get off the big island. Yes, the Yasawas are filled with tourists, but at least you'll get a great beach, palm trees, and beautiful water. I enjoyed the Flyer ride itself sitting outside, which is about 4 hours to the end of the line. From Denarau, we did take a very nice one day sailing trip to Monuriki (Tom Hanks Castaway Island)- excellent snokeling, village visit (designed for tourists), pleasant atmosphere. | 3
