We are staying in Nadi for 3 days on our way to Australia and included in our package is the Tanoa International Hotel which is about 5min from the airport but closer to a half hour to the beach. We had in mind relaxing with drink in hand on the white sand beaches & infinity pools with a view of the beach but that wont happen at Tanoa. Thanks!
While at Denarau I walked through several of the big hotels such as the ones you've mentioned and, . | 1
Be aware that Nadi beaches are not the lovely white sand with clear blue water you see in the tourist brochures. The water is generally murky and the sand dark. Stick to the pools. | 2
Marilyn's comment about the beach at Deanaru- in fact most of the Nadi area- is spot on so here's an idea- | 3
It is unlikely you will be challenged on entering one of the Denerau hotel's facilities as long as you look somewhat respectable and don't cause a fuss. They are not militant about chucking people out as I have observed in places like Mexico, etc. This is likely both because Fijians are culturally non-confrontational, and that the "all-inclusive" style resort is not common in Fiji. However, if you want white sand you will not find it at Denerau, the artificial island is built on mud flats, which are about as scenic as they sound. A day tour to one of the islands is better bet, and can be easily booked through your hotel. My own recommendation would be to take a taxi down to the Intercontinental at Natadola Beach, about 40 minutes south of Nadi. It is a top notch resort with your requisite infinity pool, attractive beach, and plenty of fancy (albeit pricey) cocktails. I have never had an issue with being a non-guest, I just have lunch there and they are happy to have me. Hope this helps. | 4
