Diving in Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hey,
I'm going to Fiji for three weeks on May 23rd. I have dived before but haven't got my PADI certificate. I'd like to do a 4 or 5 day course while i'm there but i'm not sure about the dive companies. I dont really want to do the dive course on Viti Levu so if anyone knows of any good dive schools on the outer islands i've be very pleased if you could share the names and your experiences.

Thanks,
Matt

Many of the island resorts have good dive operations. What sort of resort / budget did you have in mind?
You say you would prefer not to do the course on VitiLevu, but I could recommend VoliVoli at the northern tip of Viti Levu. Good dive operation (Ra Divers) fabulous swimming pool, good accomodation rates (and dive/accomodation package rates) and easy access. Then move on to a couple of other spots in the Yasawas.

Cheers,
Peter

Octopus on Waya or Blue Lagoon Beach Resort on Nacula in the Yasawas have good dive operations.

I think you are making a mistake by writing off Viti Levu. One of the world's best diving outfits is Ra Divers, headquartered at Volivoli Beach Resort near Rakiraki, Ra. It's the most northern point of Viti Levu and gets the good Bligh Waters currents.

KiwiSonia, I know that John is not connected with Ra Divers or VoliVoli, but he does live in the area.
I have not dived with Ra, but I have looked at their gear a couple of months ago and it did look pretty good to me and their web site still says they are PADI and SSI. How long ago was your ''experience''?

Cheers,
Peter

If you manage to get your padi while your there, id advise checking out Beqa Adventure divers once you have your qualification. They do a shark diving in shark reef, which i went on and it was amazing. The best dive ive done of any sorts, we saw tonnes of fish, eels, turtes and of course sharks. It was an amazing expreience. Check out my post: Diving with the big bad sharks for more details.
