Do I need a mosquito net?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi all. Quick question, as search function is still down. I'm doing Fiji mainland and the Yasawas, would you recommend bringing your own mosquito net.
Thanks guys.

Most lodgings have mosquito netting provided. If you're going super-budget, you could pack one--
it's also handy to bring tape to tape off holes you might find in the netting provided.

Yes, many lodgings do have them, but not all. Hotels, lodgings in cities/towns less likely in my experience. I bring my own anyway, a one-peson wedge design. Very small and lightweight. Having my own means I'm not dependent on there already being a net in the room. It's a form of insurance.

I wouldn't necessarily recommend bringing one. It depends on how much of a mosquito magnet you are and how much peace of mind you want.

Hi!
Don't forget to check your net for holes to be sure mosquitoes can't penetrate.
Apply some DEET, too.
If in any case you still get mosquito bites, peptirub mosquito bite serum manages to give immediate relief of the the itch and swelling.
