Do tell all about Koro Island

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Aloha from Maui,

I would like to know about any travel experiences to Koro Island. I haven't seen any threads and am very curious, as my boyfriend owns land there and we are thinking of a trip in May.

Mahalo ~ Jen

Aloha kakahia'ka Jen,

Spent a whole season sailing around Vanua Lava (second largest island in Fiji) but didn't get to Koro, the whole area is, however, lovely. One of the nicest ways to travel to Koro would be to fly from Nadi to Savsavu and take a sailing trip, May is the beginning of the sailing season. The yacht Seahawk does charters and the larger vessel Tui Tai more organised voyages. Not sure if you can just 'get on, get off' but worth investigating.

Holoholo..... Angela (my last skipper was from Hawaii)!

large, ruged volcanic isl, very lush bush, some nice beaches and a large calm lagoon which is most of the year in the lee. dere bay resort is on that side to, but guests that stay there are usually only people that bought property on koro. otherwise only fijan villages there. people live off the land and sea.
nacamaki village at the north is said to be able to call turtles. didnt see it done but i saw occasional turtles while snorkling the fringing reefs of nacamaki.
not much to do out there except hiking, snorkeling, and experiencing real fijian life.
