Early morning in NadiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
I'm going to be coming through Fiji for a couple of days. My flight arrives really early (between 5 and 6am) in Nadi. I'm not really sure how to manage the logistics, particularly because I can't seem to find phone numbers online for any hostels there in Nadi. They all seem to promise free airport pick-up, and there's no shortage of websites to book accommodation online, but I'm wondering where that leaves me first thing in the morning. Anyone have a suggestion for what to do? Will I be fine just showing up at the airport and seeking out accommodation?
Will I be fine just showing up at the airport and seeking out accommodation? Yes certainly all kinds of options but this begs the question why are you staying in Nadi-it's an undistinguished town with some decent shopping and a few good restaurants and little more. | 1
The reason is rather simple, and pathetic – I have two nights in Fiji from when I booked the flight (a cheap flight where I have to pay over the odds for itinerary changes), on the return leg of a trans-Pacific trip, which doesn't give me much time to do stuff, plus I now have unexpected work stuff due for when I get back, meaning that I'm probably going to have to spend a significant time in my room working and won't have time for sightseeing. At least, that's the plan at this point, so to just hang out in Nadi till my trip out of there two days later. | 2
Nadi airport is full of travel agents willing to arrange anything for you, including helping out with transportation options. And many of them will be open for business even at 6am. It's my own style of travel to just show up somewhere and figure things out. But I also usually have a lot more time than a couple of days. I did discover that several of the more popular places in the immediate vicinity of Nadi were booked out that early in the day, and some did not yet know if a vacancy would come free. So finding something (and getting there) should be possible, but may require some looking around on any given morning. If you don't want to deal with that, then book ahead of time. Transport can still be figured out once you arrive. By the way, Lautoka is a much nicer place than Nadi, and only about a half hour away by bus. If you figure you could tolerate Nadi, Lautoka would be a more interesting option. | 3
go to the airport Beachcomber office and go there on the morning boat, you can probably leave from there to go direct to the airport when leaving (time dependent). Enjoy! | 4
