Entering Fiji on a one way ticketCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hello all! I was just wondering if anyone has had any experience entering Fiji on a one way ticket. Is it possible? I am planning to spend some time in Fiji and then travel, perhaps by boat, to some other Pacific islands - so I won't be able to show proof of onward travel. Is it possible to show proof of sufficient funds instead? Any insight would be helpful! Thanks!
I have never been asked to show an onward ticket when entering Fiji. However, when my husband had arranged to crew a yacht back from Fiji after our time there, he had to have proof of passage from the yacht captain before he was allowed to board the plane to Fiji. | 1
Tourist visa in Fiji is only 4 months... When I first left Melbourne Australia for Fiji, I had a return date of 4 months + 4 days... I had BIG issues leaving Melbourne! They wouldn't let me check in as my ticket was 4 days over tourist visa allowance... Luckily I had a fully flexible ticket so managed to convince the airline manager that I would bring my ticket forward once I arrived to Fiji... I had the same issues upon arriving with Fiji customs/passport control... Again I told them I would change my ticket ASAP, they eventually let me in.... I got a 3 year residence visa shortly after so didn't need to change my return date.... I have returned to Melbourne 4 times since to visit family and each time I leave Melbourne to come back to Fiji the airline always asks me to show them my return ticket, I then point out my visa stamp in my passport and all is good..... From my experience, entering Fiji on a one way ticket is not possible... You are best to get a return ticket (return within 4 months).... fully flexible ticket will allow you to change your return date without paying extra, however not sure if they will allow you to extend return date without extended visa.... Good luck! | 2

Hey thanks all! Wow I'm so impressed to get answers so quickly. I guess I will get a flexible return ticket.... hmmm.. no one has shown proof of funds that they are able to purchase a ticket out? Thanks for the help! | 4
I just got back from Fiji and for the first time ever the entry form required an address or hotel name for your stay. This was totally new to me; I explained that I had made 14 trips to Fiji and never once had reserved a hotel in advance, but this didn't go down too well. The immigration office eventually asked for an e-mail address because I didn't have a cell phone with me, but he didn't seem too pleased. Definitely a Fiji first, not the usual welcome one used to get. As far as an exit date, I didn't have to show him my ticket but I did have to enter an exit date on the landing form. | 5
I've flown at least 6 times to Fiji in the last two years, when leaving Australia I have had to show evidence of a return ticket to board the plane, mostly people are flying with the one airline and have booked a return so they may not realise what is required, but if flying back with a different carrier you have to show proof of a flight. I had to check my computer booking with another airline before they would let me on my flight. | 6
