Extended stopover in Nadi

Hi everyone,

My partner and I have a 12+ hour stopover in Nadi en route from Melbourne to LA in mid dec 2015. We land at 5.45am and take off at 9.40pm. We are planning on booking a room or dorm in one of the hostels nearby (Smugglers or Bambo) so we have a base. Would it be possible/worthwhile to do a day trip from Nadi? I'd be looking for something thats no longer than about 6hours, is relaxing and doesn't involve too much time in transfers. Maybe an island cruise or snorkelling. Or would it be better to just relax at the hostel? We like to be out doing things and would like to make the most of the stopover.

You should have no problem getting a day trip to one of the islands - have a look at ssc.com.fj - they offer half and full day trips out of Denarau Marina. I can recommend Mana Island - it is not too far to travel to, is a larger island with several beaches, nice snorkeling and access to the resort pool. But there are lots of options as well.
