Family travel in December-January in FijiCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi, Do you know how is the weather in Viti levu, Ovalau, Nananu-i-ra and Yasawas? I heart that in December and Janury there is a lot of rain, but not everywhere? Or where is the best weather by that time? Also I need advice about accomodation. I prefer bure where we can fit /4-5 beds would be enough/ just on the beach where kids can swim even at low tide, easy atmosphere. I dont need delux resorts, but need it clean, safe, nice and something to do for my kids. Thanks for your help!!! Igi
Dont wory about the weather, the kids will love it, take them to leleuvia or caqalai (coral islands south of ovalau, very good value, just google) perfect places for kids, they and you will propably also love bobosfarm, look at levukafiji.com | 1
Jan 2009 saw torrential rain with major flooding in Nadi. Im just back yesterday and the damage is STILL being repaired. Jan is considered "hurricane season" too - though nione since 2000. | 2
Jan is definately cyclone season and not the best month to visit,,, its stinking hot and humid...but any time in Fiji is a good time... dont go thinking its perfect weather but atleast its swimming season that time of year :-) Not sure about Bures that sleep 4 to 5 but I do know that "The Beach house" on the coral coast has private cottages (not traditional bures) that sleep 4.. The rooms are around $100 - 110 Fijian per night and it includes breakfast.. its a really nice place and there is a pool, plus beach, kayaking and fishing etc plus they can arrange tours for entertainment... There is also a place called Tubakula on the coral coast that has A frame houses that sleep 5.. around $160 per night and has a pool but entertainment is minimal but the Outrigger is next door and you are allowed to use their facilities including their children services.. | 3
Definitely hot and humid in Dec/Jan, but the further west you are it gets a little less rain, i.e., the Yasawas are drier than many other parts east. | 4
