Ferries to Vanua Levu and Taveuni

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

We will be in Fiji from August 23 to September 25 and are planning to head to Taveuni, Vanua Levu and Ovalau. We are just wondering if anyone can give us the current status on which ferries are or aren't running. (We have five kids so while the flights are enticing, the ferries are friendlier on the bank account.) At one time I had read of a ferry from Lautoka to Vanua Levu but don't see it right now on the Bligh website. Any info on ferries from Suva would also be appreciated. Also we have not prebooked any accomodation as we prefer to plan as we go. Are there any particular dates or places where we may find ourselves sleeping in the street due to some local holiday that we aren't aware of? Thank you for any advice.

I was there earlier this year, and ferries from Suva were running at least twice a week. Can't remember the company for sure - but I think it was Sullivan Shipping.
Just check once in Suva - this is Fiji's busiest route so something will get you there anyway.
Both the ferry and the office were at the main wharf in Walu Bay.

And you will never have to sleep on the streets in Fiji.
I mostly visited during peak holiday periods and never book in advance, and still never had any trouble finding places to stay.
