Few days in Fiji, Need some advice! - transfers - Surf - On a budget

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'll be going to Fiji in August with my girlfriend for the first time and we still organising accommodation and schedule for the nine days trip you'd help me a lot with some answers.

  • We are planning to flight to Nadi and we'll be getting there after mid - day but we would like to stay in Nadi for the night cause we going to be in there for few days only so WHAT'S THE BEST/ CHEAPEST OPTION TO GET FROM NADI TO BEACHCOMBER ISLAND?

  • We been looking for a place to stay and the prices on beachcomber island seem to be reasonable and looks nice, but I'd like to surf: IS IT POSSIBLE TO STAY AT THE BEACHCOMBER AND GET SURF TRIPS FOR A DAY STAYING THERE? OR IS MOLOLO ISLAND THE ONLY PLACE WHERE SURF TRIPS ARE OFFERED?

OUR AIM IS TO RELAX AND SEE A BIT OF THE PLACE NOT SPENDING A LOT AND BE ABLE TO SURF A COUPLE OF DAYS. ANY RECOMMENDATIONS?

Thanks!

Beachcomber is a tiny party island. You can walk all the way around it on the beach in about 20 minutes. There is snorkelling there, but no surf. It has a sister resort called "The Anchorage" just up the coast north from Nadi and they run their own boats to and from Beachcomber on a regular basis.

The best way to get to The Anchorage from Nadi is by taxi. You can take a local bus part way, but will need a cab for the last bit anyway. Cabs are cheap.

Cheers,
Peter

Thanks for your reply Peter!

We've been told that staying in Nadi is not that nice, thats why we've been looking for other options, but we have no clue if that's true, What's the downside of staying in Nadi? In case we'd like to visit other island during our stay in Fiji is it expensive to go on day trips to different places?

Nadi is a tourist based economy town. There is an interesting Hindi temple and a f&V market, but half a day is long enough. My choice would be to pick a couple of spots in the Yasawas to spend your time, but there is no surf out there. That is a couple of specific spots to the south, from memory.
Take a look at Octopus and maybe something in the Blue Lagoon area. We like Nanuya LiLi, but that is quite small and quiet and a bit more up market.
The Yasawa Flyer is the normal way to move around.

Cheers,
Peter
