fiji accommodation and snorkellingCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hi everyone, We are travelling to fiji in early feb for a week and would like to know if anyone has any tipss or reccomendations. We're looking for a good resort/huts with good snorkelling out the front/close and activities nearby. We don't want to spend too much on accomodation - got a brochure with large "hilton" like resorts but we don't really need a pool if there's good snorkelling out the front!!! Any help would be great!! cheers
All I can say is that there is great snorkeling off Yasana islands (the further the better). There's many places to stay but a lot of them are very basic. Edited by: greggig Edited by: greggig | 1
I agree with Greg. The furthest Yasawa Is and the best for snorkelling could be - http://www.oarsmansbay.com/ The snorkelling is excellent high nd low tide just off the beach and price is reasonable -and no pool. | 2
There is no good snorkeling off those Hilton type resorts at Denerau. | 3
I would recommend Octopus Resort on Waya Island - it would have everything you are looking for. Unfortunately, they are quite popular and often booked out, especially the less expensive rooms. They offer camping and dorms, as well as beach/garden fales. You could check out their website to see if it might appeal to you. | 4
Having lived in the Denarau area of Nadi for a year with family, we found the easiest access, good snorkelling to get to by heading to the Denarau Marina and climbing on board the South Sea Cruises ship (approx USD $25/head) for a 45 minute trip out to S.Sea Island. If that one doesn't do it for you, there are at least 5 other 'snorkelling' deals available at the Marina as well, most longer duration ride and higher cost. Its quick, easy, inexpensive and good value...not to mention a beautiful 33C sunshine and slightly cooler water temps. While there are 5 resorts in a row along the Denarau stretch of beach (Westin, Radisson, Sofitel, Hilton,Sheraton-Sheraton was closed for entire renos when I left last September)...there is zero snorkelling out front of any of them. Their beaches are for swimming, seadoing sports only. Enjoy the trip, you won't be disappointed! | 5
Octopus was wonderful...Snorkelling directly off the beach, activities every day for those that want them, canoes for hire, absolutely unreal staff and the prices weren't bad (and included food in the bora price). It was absolutely stunning. | 6
