Fiji - Best time to avoid kidsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
I'm planning on going to Fiji for a couple of weeks on 15th of September. The plan is to chill-out for a couple of weeks before embarking on 6months travelling around Australia and Asia. From what I've heard the place is beautiful and perfect for relaxing... I've been advised by a travel agent that it would be best to avoid Fiji mid to end of September because that coincides with Australian school holidays and the islands are very popular with families with small children. Can anyone advise me when the school holidays in Australia are? and to what extend visiting Fiji during this time is likely to impact on my plans for chilling-out? I've yet to book my RTW ticket so it's not too late to change my itinerary, but I need to make a decision in the next few days....
Do a google search for school holidays in Australia and New Zealand. | 1
Hi These are links to both Australian and NZ school holidays. I always avoid school holidays like the plague, particularly in places like Fiji where so many places offer deals where kids eat and sleep free. http://www.aussie-info.com/tourist/holidays.php Unfortunately, though, many parents are happy to take their children out of school at other times, plus there are pre-school age children, so you will always find children. There are, of course, resorts that do not take children, but they do tend to be in the more expensive price bracket. Edited by: agingaquarian | 2
I agree with the above. Avoiding kids is also not too hard if you avoid places that have many kids eg the resorts of the Coral Coast and Islands | 3
BTW I havent had many "issues" with kids in recent years in our trips to Yasawa islands (Octopus and Oarsman), nor on Denerau (Sofitel and Raddisson) | 4
Yep, families with kids seem to go to certain places and are therefore easy to "avoid" if you feel the need to do so. I'm kind of puzzled and amused by the Australian phobia of children, BTW. | 5
Lazlo.... Ditto, I think folks (including kids) not like me add to the color and experience of my holiday. Kids/Blacks/Jews/Gays/Asians/Handicapped/(whoever).... no problem Cranky, belligerent, complaining tourists..... big problem If I wanted to be around middle-aged (old?), white, Anglo-Saxon, boring people like me, I'd just stay home. | 6
H2ooh I'm still laughing - you are just so funny! Unfortunately you won't see the joke. | 7
agingaquarian.... You are so insightful, I am in awe! | 8
