Just arrived from Fiji a week ago, some may find find following useful:

Taxi from Nadi airport is just 20mins apx into main hostels in town. The hostels below are all clustered quite close together (there are many others not listed here), all within walking distance to find find accom if places are full. Try out the following:

Accommodation on Nadi mainland:
Bluewater Lodge (excellent), Horizon, Tropic of Capricorn. (Smugglers Lodge staff seemed quite unfriendly and we were charged way too much for our Yasawa Flyer tickets - their eve shows are worth checking however). You´ll find that all you need is somewhere to kip on the mainland before heading to the islands, so a night´s stay on arrival and a night´s stay before departure is the usual thing to do.

Nacula Island:
Do not stay at the Melbravo Resort - we encountered an intruder roaming around our bure (hut) all night. There were reports from 2 people the night before that they felt a presence around their bure too. We reported to the Melbravo staff but nothing was really done about it. Although staff were friendly, much work needed to be done to the accomodation, it was dirty, wash facilities were basic (showers often halted to a drip and we were passed jugs of water to complete our wash) and creepy crawlies constantly roaming around the bure. Electricity generators turn off completely at 9/10pm, so you will need a torch for sure. Also, we originally asked to book dorms and paid for these. However, on arrival at the resort we were told dorms were being refurbished and that they could offer us a bure for the same price, so check what you´re paying for.

If you are offered to visit the village chief, please decline as we discovered by fellow travellers on other islands that the ´chief´ was in fact a fake chief! You will be asked to make a $5 contribution and take part in a ´meet-the-chief´ceremony before being allowed to visit the local shell market run by local women.

Mantaray Resort:
Great place for snorkelling-diving etc. Def worth a visit. Staff are v friendly and helpful. It´s not mantaray season, but still one not be missed.

On the other side of Nacula Island to Melbravo, is the brilliant Oarsmans Bay - go there next time. Spotless excellent bures, lovely dorm - with views. 24hr power and solar hot water etc etc
