Fiji For Romance

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hey All,
I've read up on Fiji all over this branch, but i'm looking for any suggestions on how to spend about 12 days in March in Fiji for a honeymoon. We'd love snorkeling, natural beauty, some privacy, culture - whatever. Places in general, names of places to stay or things to do - all appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Taveuni! I would recommend for the things you want for your honeymoon without a doubt. Coconut Grove would be ideal, it has only three bures, right on the beach and has amazing food, they have they'r eown seakayaks for going along the coast or out to the ref, you can swim to the reef for great snorkeling, and there is the Lavena coastal walk, marine reserve, Bouma National park, horseriding up extinct volcanoes, diving and loads of other things to do on the island. have a read of Rob kays's fiji guid, has lots on taveuni and the other islands.

Hey Cheshire - thanks for the recommendation - I'll definitely put Tavenui on the possibilities list! Like I said, I'm still figuring things out and this is a great help. How much time do you think one could spend at Coconut Grove (or Tavenui in general)? Should we be looking to spend the whole trip in one place or should I think about something else as well? I've heard some good things about Kadavu for the snorkeling (don't know about the atmosphere though) and I'm not sure how hard it will be to get around all these places!

there are flights from sun air & air fiji from Nadi, Suva and othe rislands or there is the ferry from the main island that takes about 24hrs that some friends took and said was great.

How much of your honeymoon do you want to spend moving around? You could easily spend the whole time on Taveuni, or could visit 2 islands (Or more).......IMO just do oneisland so you cna get to see it and relax and enjoy your honeymoon. When we were on Taveuni one of the village schools would put on a meke & lovo with the money raised going to the school and that was a fantastic night!

I would happen to agree with Cheshirekat - 12 days seems like a long time but straight after a wedding you will probably need the time to relax and grab some sleep. Plus getting around Fiji can take a fair amount of time due to the fact that transfers and flights may only happen once or twice a day.

Tavenui is suppose to be amazing and I would love to go there.

We stayed on Matamanoa Island in feb this year, mostly because it became very costly for us to travel to Tavenui once we added on extra flights (I'm guessing with a honey moon this may not be as much of an issue!). But Matamanoa was perfect, it does not accomodate any children under 12, which effectively meant that there were no children on the island. It was mostly a destination for honeymooners or for those couples wanting a relaxing trip. There is only one resort on the island, so you can pretty much escape to a secluded corner of the island and no one will ever bother you. In addition, as the place is mostly for couples then people are friendly but are not over friendly. The best part was that it was part of a marine sanctuary which meant you could snorkel straight of the beach and see the most amazing coral reefs and fish. They also offered diving courses, tours of the nearby local villages and daily displays of fijian culture ie we had choirs from neighbouring island visit, basket weaving, etc. You can see the island that they used for the movie 'castaway' and for interested people you can do a day trip on a sailing boat to explore the island, as its uninhabited.

I would probably suggest with 12 days that you could do two islands, that gives you about 5-6 days on each. That way you could get a feel for two different areas of fiji.
