Fiji for Two WeeksCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
Hello hello I am a single girl who lands in Fiji in February for two weeks. I am looking to do some diving (have done some in the past, just need a reminder sess) and have been looking at the Yasawa group as I heard the weather should be slightly better. I am looking for backpacker accomodation, dorms etc and would like to keep things cheap if poss. My treat would be the sea plane, I was wondering whether I should get the seaplane out to the furthest resort then slowly boat back exploring islands on the way, or do it the other way. My flight lands at 4.30pm on Sunday so i assume I need one night in Nadi before heading out the following morning, any ideas on accomodation on Nadi? Any suggestions would be great! I am not keen on an organised package just would like to see how things go - hope that makes sense? Many thanks in advance!!!
If you are arriving into Nadi at 4.30pm, then you will have to overnight it in Nadi. I would recommend Raffles Hotel _http://www.tourismfiji.com/raffles-gateway-hotel/_. The cost is F$79 per room. Take the seaplane out to the Yasawas _http://www.turtleairways.com_. You will be allocated an early morning flight and viewing the reefs from above at this time of the day, as the sun captures the coral shelves, is magnificent. If you are looking for budget / dorm accommodation then consider Otto & Fannys _http://www.ottoandfanny.com/_ on Tavewa Island. This is where the seaplane will land. Dorms rooms are F$30 per night. I would recommend one week on this island. For your second option / experience, I would recommend you then transferring to Oarsmans Bay Lodge on Nacula Island _http://www.oarsmansbay.com_. The dorm room costs F$24.81 per night. It is a large, hilly island which you can hike around. It is also home to the regional chief - Chief Ratu Epeli. Can you partake in a half day trip to the local fijian village if you wish. The beach also has very good snorkelling off of it. For diving, you will book with Westside Water Sports _http://www.fiji-dive.com/_. Their office is located on Tavewa Island. It is owned by the New Zealand family who own / run Nanuya Island Resort. To finish off, you will be catching the Yasawa Flyer back to Denarau Marina (25 mins from Nadi Airport) _http://www.fijibudget.com/fiji-floatplane.htm_. This will cost you F$110. Happy travels. | 1

Just a comment about Raffles - I agree it would be a good choice - but last October the standard rooms were FJ$98 (the reference above shows Aust. $$) | 4
And another thing - don't forget the compulsory meal plan price is additional to dorm cost (FJ$63 at Oarsmans) | 5
I second all of Schwabbie's excellent advice. Re TaiMarilyn and the Oarsman's meal plan - there is little choice to this asthere arent any shops or restaurants to choose other than from the resort, but when I was there a few months ago, some camper did take their own food. The meals were quite nice - not at all fancy, homely really. The Yasawa Flyer stops at many places and allows you to book accom whilst onboard. Id recommend 2nd class. First class tix really not at all worth the extra $. | 6
