| movingonkaty07:58 UTC19 Feb 2007 | Thinking about doing a 1-2week trip to Fiji in late dec, early January. How are the holiday periods there? Is it hard to get reservations during that time? I know its not the best season to visit, but how bad will the weather be? Will it be worth it for the few weeks? Its a free stopover on another ticket, so plane costs arent my concern. Thanks

"I know its not the best season to visit..." obviously you dont know. the worst time in fiji are the wintermonth july/august. dec jan is summer, its sunny, hot, humid, seas are usually calm, often there are short but heavy afternoon showers. bad weather spells can happen any time of the year.

It's ALWAYS worth visiting Fiji for a few weeks.
It will just be a bit hotter and more humid in Dec/Jan than in July/Aug.
Late Dec. will fill up in many places by the end of August or Sept. I had to try several different places in August/Sept. for a proposed trip in late Dec. a couple of yrs ago, the good ones were almost all full by then.

| ames2510:28 UTC30 Mar 2007 | We were in fiji between those weeks last year/early this. Weather was fantastic, and the short burst of rain around 3 everyday was a welcome cool down and passed so fast you hardly noticed. And the rain only sticks to the main land anyway, so if you head off to the islands you won't even notice the weather...
as for peak tourist time, we hardly noticed that either.. especially if you head off the beaten track abit. We spent a week in kandavu and ended up sharing our resort with one other person for 5 of our 7 days. Can't ask for much better than that!
