fiji in december:lomaiviti, lau, yasawa -- weather conditionsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
planning a 2-3 week trip this december, and we are wondering if this is a bad idea due to weather, rain, etc? we know there is rain in tropical places, but is december an ok time to visit for beaching, exploring and snorkeling? any help would be appreciated!
It's OK. I've been to Fiji in December twice, and it was fine. | 1
Lau Group? - you'd be unlikely to be able to get there and back in 2 - 3 weeks. In December I'd be sticking to the Yasawas. | 2
really? why is that? i understood there to be weekly flights from suva?? thanks! | 3
Trouble is that those weekly flights can only get you to one of 2-3 islands, and I don't think any of those are worth a full week of your limited time. Viti Levu, the Yasawas and Ovalau (with its tiny satellites, the only island tourist normally visit in the Lomavitis) can easily full your 2-3 weeks. | 4
the idea of the lau groups was visiting caqalai and leluvia. sounds like that might not be possible in one week from suva? thanks lazlo. did my second trip to papua last year, was awesome. anything like that vibe in fiji??? | 5
Fiji is nothing like Papua, but nice to visit anyway. Caqalai and Leluvia are the "tiny satellites" of Ovalau I referred to above. | 6
Caqelai and Leluvia are easy enough - either by small boat from north of Suva, or by flying to Ovalau and getting a boat from there. Lau is halfway to Tonga, one flight a week yes - but it's a small plane with about 10 seats (they have to carry fuel for return journey as well) and is often booked well ahead. Also might not run to schedule due to weather conditions, we had to wait a further day when we were there as it didn't arrive from Suva as scheduled. | 7
