Fiji Island Hopping on a budget HELP!

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I am ending my backpacking travels in Fiji and really keen to island hop. Does anyone have any advice on specific islands, the ferry's, accommodation? I would like to avoid booking anything through Awesome Adventures. After an extensive Trip Advisor search they seem very glossy upfront but when it comes down to the nitty gritty they are over priced and the service isn't great. Basically any advice or recommendations would be appreciated!

Thanks :)

You could island-hop between the major islands of Viti Levu, Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Ovalau by public boats.
If you are truly adventurous and hardy, you could even tour the remote Lau Islands by cargo ship.
The touristy Mamanucas and Yasawas are hard to visit without the expensive tourist shuttles.

Still trying to get my head around how it works in Fiji but I thought you had to use awesome adventures to island hop mamanucas and yasawas? May be wrong though!

You can try to find a transfer with a local at www.islandtransfersfiji.com.au. It’s usually cheaper and more convenient than the yasawa flyer. I used them twice and it worked ok.

Hi,
I'd highly recommend www.mantarayisland.com as a budget friendly location with amazing food and the opportunity to swim with the Manta Rays. Incredible!
