| bobkins12:29 UTC03 Oct 2007 | Hi,
My sister and I are heading to fiji in a week ( i know.. leaving planning last minute, but we have been on the road for 11 months) and have 9 full days there, and are now trying to figure out what to do with our time.
we are 19 and 22, and up for meeting people and having fun, but not getting drunk every night (maybe once) After reading a lot of these posts, we think Robinson Crusoe island sounds great, but can't decide whether to stay for 3 nights, and then go somewhere else, or 5 nights, which includes a 6th in Nadi, meaning we dont have much time left
anyone that has been there, or to one of these kind of resort islands generally, can you please tell me whether its worth trying to see more places in this short time, or if it'd be best to pick one place and just relax there.
was also thinking of some of the packages they offer with 3 nights on robinson, and 2 on either beachcomber resort, walu beach resort or mango bay resort.
if we just do 3 nights on robinson, is it worth going to one of the yasawa islands for another 4 nights?
last thing we were considering was the feejee experience, but that seems very little mentioned here? are most people pretty against it? if wanting to see the main island, better to do it yourself? only thing is we enjoy meeting other travellers, is this easy regardless
thanks a lot in advance Bob!

Haven't been there myself, but the other travellers I met highly recommended it as much as u do a budget resort. I've spent nearly a month all together in the area and Kuata was my least fav spot. Much due to the food.
Hacve not spent time at robinson, but i've heard good things about beachcomber especially if u wanna meet other people, manta ray in the yasawas are always popular. I travelled around the mainland on my own for a bit, met mostly locals, so it's basically a choice between very cheap transport involving close contact with the locals or pay more to go with other backpacker, in probably a bit safer transport.
If u haven't checked it out yet, see awesome adventures website (just search on google) I had a great time in the yasawas, going on one of the packages and then on my own, and met a lot of other travellers. Drinking waries, most people have a couple of beer or drinks, but it was rather rare that people were drunk. All depends on the people u meet.

| mikemorris196205:16 UTC05 Oct 2007 | it sounds like you are into the resorts and stuff, i don't really know about them but have you thought about Levuka? A little town, the old capital of Fiji, on on Ovalu. Check out this website: http://www.levukafiji.com/<BR>Levuka itself has no beach so if that's what yuo are after then forget it.. however it does have real colonial character, wonderful friendly people and a great atmosphere. It wasn't crowded out with tourists (probably because it doesn't have a beach) - but i found those that do go there were great fun - i have vague memories of several really good nights out at the whales tail restaurant there . I travelled around fiji when i was last there and it was all great, but levuka was a really special time.. If you can spare it, take a couple of days there. I can also really recommend the levuka homestay too if you do decide to go there.
Oh, and get out of Nadi as soon as you can, I wouldn't bother spending the night there if you can help it - it's the pants!
Enjoy your stay there

Typically its an island thing and theres lots of island hoping to do for all ages but primarily its a younger persons thing esp if you like to party. I'd say go to Beachcomber out of Nadi for 5 days you'll love it and its an easy introduction to island life and the other islands around the mamanucas and then on up to the yasawas. If as you have the time further exploration of the northern yasawa island group is easy done: you can get a pass for the daily morning boat the Yasawa Flyer (the Yellow Boat) and an accom pass, they'll book accm for you on the boat enroute if you haven't done so already. There are some great islands which you'll see from the boat. I took the ride as far north as i could go, had a near week at David's place (there is probably better joints but its ok, see Jonathon if you do) and am next week returning to Octopus Resort.
The Mamanucas being closer to the mainland can be more partyish and the Yasawa a little slower but both make up whats there so pick and choose. This time I'm also heading over to the other main island Vanua Levu which you probably wouldnt have time for. The main island is ok but i think the circuit road of the Coral Coast to Suva is ok but nothing flash compared to the Mamanucas. Suva is ok but like most of those places its just a small regional centre without much modern infrustructure but if you take it all in your stride its ok. Fiji for me is def about the islands though. ENjoy
