Fiji Itinerary Questions

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi All,
As previously posted my common-law and I book Fiji for 14 days in the beginning of June. After the exitement wore off I realized that I need to figure out a rough itinerary. So I come here for some help in deciding what to do and where to go.
We are looking for a primarily snorkling, hiking vacation..and were thinking of spending most of our time in the Yasawa Group.
We like the Octopus Resort and was thinking about a 5 day package there. Then maybe off to the sister resort the Blue Lagoon for 3-4 nights. After that were up in the air. Is there any resort/beach/snorkling destination that were missing? We are really indiferent at this point...maybe a stop off in the Mamanuca Group? Maybe the coral coast?
Any suggestions?

Mananuca's are well worth a visit. We last stayed at Funky Fish. A short, very hot hike takes you up to the top of the island for amazing 360 views of the Mamanucas and Yasawa chain. Excellent food when we were there 2 yrs ago. We also did the coral coast. For us, it was worth it to do the shark feed dive, but other than that, not too much to do there, and the views are nothing like in the yasawas. I understand there is a trip that involves hiking up the mountain and rafting down, which is quite good. Vanua Levu and Tavenui are also great places, but you need to fly there, so for 2 weeks I would probably skip them.

Octopus and Blue Lagoon are fantastic, enjoy!

Since you have 14 days, I recommend getting farther away from the Nadi Airport where you will generally find better value for your money and enjoy a more authentic Fiji cultural experience. The Coral Coast and Mamanucas are so convenient to the airport that they get a lot of short-term 'layover' tourists and prices -generally- tend to be higher for the same service or product.

The Yasawa islands are a good choice, though the ferry boat transfer is a rip-off. Also consider the Savusavu area, Taveuni and the Nananu-ira areas. They all have good snorkeling and hiking opportunities.
