Fiji - Location choice for snorkelling

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi, We are 2 backpackers, mum & daughter, keen on snorkelling for 10dys in Fiji from 22 Feb. Its our first trip to Fiji and we are considering Yasawa Islands or Savusavu or Taveuni as these seem to offer best snorkelling? Would welcome advice on which place best for the time of year / length of trip / nice budget accomodation in these places. Do not want a party animal beach, prefer scenic, quieter location. Don't mind roughing it. Thanks in advance :)

googe for Leleuvia Island or Caqalai Island.
both stunning coral islands, very scenic location, great snorkelling, beautifull white beaches....
quite places, facilities are budget, rates are unmatched - actually cheap for that natural beauty you get. leleuvia is a bit more up to date...

Hi
I went on a one week trip and tripped around viti levu. The best palce i found was nananu island. I stayed at Safari lodge - col lodge with plenty of accommodatin options...twin and dorm and beachfront bures...
The snorkeling off the beach was amazing plenty of fish, soft corals, loved it. They also took us out to the outer reef on snorkeling trips to see big fish - that was exciting.... Costs was $30\dorm or $90\private rooom great food.

I then went ot caqalai which was also good snorkeling but a little basic..quaint island, simple and small.......snorkeling was ok there too....

Ill be back!
Dave

We did a full day cruise with Rosies Fiji but I can't remember what it was called now... It took us to various islands for some of the most amazing snorkelling! We were outnumbered by the crew, who fed us, sang to us and made sure we had a drink in our hand all day (all this was included in the price of the cruise)! The crew were the loveliest people and I have to say it was one of the best things I've ever done. Check out Rosies and see if they still run it!

Cheers
Neil
