FIJI mountains and forest?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi I'm going to fiji for two weeks in april and can't find much tourism info beyond beaches. Can anyone recommend places to go/stay inland. I would like to do some hiking in the hills and forests, are there any formalised trails or tours?

Also Please Note-all land in Fiji is private and using a guide who's familiar with the villages who's land you intend on crossing is important-even more so if you plan on staying overnight in one of the villages.

I think Taveuni is your best bet (definitely the best forest), followed by the interior of Viti Levu, then Ovalau (just one hike there, but that's great).

You can climb Mount Victoria. It is Fiji's highest mountain, located in the interior of Viti Levu, the main island. The base of the trail is near Vatukoula, a short way from Tavua town. It's a semi-formalized day hike, but often cloudy at the peak. Negotiate price.

Near Suva, the Colo I Suva trails are nice.

There are many trails through the mountain ranges (Nakauvadra and Nakorotubu ranges are two good ones), but you'd have to hire someone to guide you. Impossible to arrange from overseas, but easy once you are here.
