Fiji - prepaid sim card

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I want to buy a local prepaid sim card as soon as I arrive in Fiji with a view to making international as well as domestic calls. How much will calls to the U.K. cost on a prepaid sim card? Is Vodafone the only choice?

There are 3 or 4 choices of provider in Fiji. Vodafone is as good as any.
Not sure of the call costs to the UK, but they were quite cheap to Australia in 2010-2012.
There is a Vodafone shop at the Nadi airport on the left as you come out of immigration. It will only take about 5 minutes to get a sim.
When you buy a recharge it is often possible to get 2 or 3 X value, but these credits are not useable for overseas calls, just local ones.

Cheers,
Peter

Can you buy 'recharges' throughout Fiji? Do all providers charge roughly the same for international calls, and do any have wider coverage i.e. in remote locations?

Recharges are readily available in shops in towns on Viti Levu, but never saw them in the Yasawas.
Can't advise on the international charges of the various providers. I would guess that they were similar.
When we bought our sims in 2010, it appeared that Vodofone had the best coverage in the islands, but it was certainly not complete coverage. There is a coverage map on their web site from memory.

Cheers,
Peter

On a local prepaid Fiji sim card, i.e. Vodafone or Digicel, the rate is F$0.20 per minute for overseas calls. But you have to spend F$30 for a sim card package.
