Fiji - recommended islands for late December/ early Jan

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Planning a last minute trip to Fiji for late december/early Jan. I have one week only and would prefer to stay in the one place for the whole time - possibly travelling alone so don't want to end up on an island thats mostly couples or families. There are so many islands to chose from that I don't really know where to start. Would like to hear peoples' recommendations for the Yasawas and the Mananuca island groups! Cheers.

Waya and Wayasewa Islands in the Yasawas fit the bill. They are large islands which are actually
linked at low tide by a sand bar you can walk across to reach the other island. Waya has 4 Fijian villages,
Wayasewa has one main village. Wayalailai Resort is geared toward young backpackers and has a lot
of activities- scuba diving, village visits, hiking- and is inexpensive. Waya has the Octopus Resort among
others. Both have great beaches. The Beachcomber Resort on a teeny-tiny Mamanuca Island is the party
island for twenty-somethings. Websites are: Beachcomberfiji.com. Wayalailairesort.com and Octopusresort.com

Bula!
Waya Island is great. Mana Island in the Mamanucas is also great and probably my favorite, with a variety of backpacker hostels around. Bounty Island is also nice and aimed at young people.
Beachcomber has a lovely beach, but it can be a little bit off putting as the island is tiny and crowded with drunk people!

Enjoy! Fiji is great!

Stay on the main island, Viti Levu, go on the Coral Coast, much more things to do and place to go if you are by yourself...check The Beachouse, nice place, nice people... and welcome to EcoCafe' (Votua Village) for any information or for some fresh food.. If you are looking for some truly Fijian experience!
