Fiji Trip Itinerary and Hotel help

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi all,

I am planning to arrive Fiji March 26 and depart April 5. This is my first Fiji trip and I need help with planning the itinerary and have several questions. I would like to see natural wonders such as mountains, caves, bays, etc. No adventure sports.

(1) What is a good 9 day itinerary? What are the places I must include?

(2) Do I need to book hotels or hostels in advance or a few days ahead should be fine? Arte there any hostels there?

Thanks in advance.

I've done this trip and its awesome. I think you might enjoy it. The rapids are pretty low but the scenery is out of this world. www.oars.com/fiji/uppernavuagorge.html Read the reviews.

i m planning to do the same
hope u ll find a good itinerary

Dear Childchi: yes, that whitewater rafting looks like a great day trip. What are the good hotel/hostels to stay at? How much time should I spend in Nadi, Suva, other places? TIA.

thanks also from me

Hi born2travelit - if you have ideas about the itinerary or come up on something, let me know too. Thanks :)

I did a similar (cheaper) tour, the scenery going down Navua River is amazing - www.discoverfijitours.com/jewel_fiji.html ... If you click on the "tours" tab, they have various tour packages (along with pricing). They even have tour + accommodation packages.
If you are after natural wonders etc, I suggest staying in Pacific Harbour or Coral Coast area... This will be fairly central for those type of tours.
For things to do in Pac Harbour have a look at www.funinfiji.com.au/things-to-do-in-fiji/trekking
For things to do in Coral Coast have a look at www.coralcoastfiji.org/activities
I have stayed at the Beachouse (Coral Coast) & it was a nice budget resort. Food was good & cheap (along with drinks), friendly staff, nice beach etc - www.fijibeachouse.com For Pac Harbour budget accommodation, check out Uprising Beach Resort. I have not stayed the night there, but I frequently spend the day there on a Saturday or Sunday. Food is nice, but more expensive than Beachouse (along with drinks). Beach is nice, but not so great after heavy rainfall - www.uprisingbeachresort.com
Nadi also offers a couple of things:
- Garden of the sleeping giant
- Vuda lookout
- Sabeto mud pools
Suva offers:
- Colo-I-Suva (forest park with treks and waterfall)
- Fiji Museum
- Shopping
Note: Most resorts/hostels also have tour desks that offer heaps of suggestions of things to do in the area.
For beach, I suggest heading out to an island where you will see "postcard fiji"... White sand & crystal clear water...
Hope this helps a little... Enjoy your holiday :)

Msagar, Yes the whitewater rafting is certainly a good choice. As far a accommadation, vfernadezoo below has given you some good suggestions. Pacific Harbour is where one gets the transport from to go onto the river. If you would like accommadation in Pacific Harbour email me at arcole@connect.com.fj. I may be able to help.

great, i ll start studying this tip to create my itinerary

vfernandez00: wow, that's lots of good info.

All: If I arrive Nadi and stay 2 nights, then stay 2 nights Coral Coast, 2 nights Pacific Harbour, 2 nights Suva, and on last day, get back to Nadi for the departure flight. Is this doable? If I have couple extra nights, what Island would you suggest?

Childchi: I just sent you an email about the accommodations in Pacific Harbor. Thanks.

it sounds interesting

Msagar - Yes it is doable.. You will need to keep in mind travel time though, as bus (which is much more economical than taxi or hire car) can take some time to get between each place. You have a choice between local bus or express coach bus. Local bus will only cost a few FJ$, there is no aircon (and it feels like no suspension), no windows, no timetable, stops frequently/takes longer & most drivers play loud music. It is an experience worth trying at some point. Express coach bus is a little more expensive (but still cheap), has aircon, suspension, timetable, only a few designated stops/quicker & most drivers play Bollywood movies or music... For express bus timetable & pricing, have a look at www.pacifictransport.com.fj/time-table.html & www.sunbeamfiji.com
You will also need to keep in mind that most shops/places are closed on Sundays (excluding restaurants and supermarkets). So if you have something planned for a Sunday, you will need to check if they are open or be prepared to have a down day.
I think 2 nights in Nadi & Suva is too long. There really isn't much to do in Suva & even less in Nadi. The things I listed above could all be done in 1 full day, so I think 2 days/1 night would be sufficient, but it is up to you, you may want to pace it out over 3 days/2 nights or add other things to the list.
If you are staying in Suva, I highly recommend doing an island stay at Leleuvia Island Resort - www.leleuvia.com
It is about 10mins car ride from Nausori Airport (Suva airport) + 35 min boat ride. I have stayed at many resorts in Fiji & this hands down is my favourite. It's budget pricing, basic accommodation, but excellent service, excellent food & the beach is amazing!! Just as good as any beach in the Mamanuca's (I have stayed there as well and have paid a lot more for a lot less). You can then fly from Nausori Airport back to Nadi (budget allowing).
Good luck with your planning... There's so many places to stay in Fiji & so much to do, planning is hard... But once you're here you will love every bit of what Fiji has to offer!!

If I were you i would use the lonely planet guide book and chose from the places in there.
I did that and It was wonderfull.
Now I'm going again and I have a question - I cant seem to start a thread so here it is

I need rough times and location for the Sabeto, Wailiko buses.
I have the buses for kings and queens road around the viti levu island just not these ones.
