Fiji where to go for 5 days???

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,

I could do with some help and advice where to go and what to do with 5 nights in Fiji??? I will be on route from USA to Oz and as flying via Fiji was cheaper I've opted for stopping there rather then just being in transit. However, as I didn't plan to go via there am just trying to do a bit of research now.

Will be travelling on my own so would also appreciate if somebody could advise where its safe but sociable for a female mid 20s traveller??? Quite like the idea of going to an island but which one do I chose??? Or would a loop around the main island with the likes of Fijiexperience be the way forward???

Any thoughts welcome. Oh also are there any visa requirements, am on a German passport.

Many thanks in advance

  1. Safety is simply not an issue for anyone with some basic common sense. I trust you have a better insight into your own qualifications in that regard..

  2. Island or tour? Sorry, but you have to make up your own mind what you want to do. It's not as if there is a correct answer. I don't like guided/organized tours myself, but if you want tot see a good cross-section of all that Viti Levu has to offer, and want to be in a group of people too, then go with the tour. If your are more inclined towards 5 days on an idyllic island, then go with that.

  3. Which island group? With only 5 days you'll save some travel time by going to one of the Yasawa/Mamanuca islands. Taking the Yasawa Flyer will put you within reach of most with max 4 hours travel time.

  4. Which island? Probably better to think in terms of which resort, not island. Again, it's up to you to figure out what you like. While there are several resorts to choose from, even a quick internet search will give you an idea of the sort of budget, clientele and activities they cater to. And don't forget that not all young people enjoy the so-called 'party' activities. That has as much to do with personality as age of the participant. I've been to resorts where the focus was on diving/snorkelling. Age was completely irrelevant with people 18-55 diving and socializing together.

  5. With a German passport you'll probably get a 4-month tourist visa on arrival. No need to apply in advance.
