Fiji Wildlife - Places to see wildlife near Suva

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello fellow travellers,

I am travelling to Fiji and staying in Suva. Whilst there I hope to write an article on Fijian wildlife. Can someone please tell me some good places to visit near Suva where I may see some unique plants and animals, and possibly how to get there?

Lauren

The Colo-i-Suva Forest Reserve is the obvious (and pretty much the only) option near Suva. Has various birds, including many Fijian endemics, a decent trail network and even nice accommodation.

Agree with #1---and if you visit Rainbird Lodge, right on the edge of the reserve, you will see quite a lot of birds in the garden and by the ponds. You can also arrange for a ranger/guide (small fee) at the ranger station at the entrance to the reserve. If you are short on time I would phone ahead for this, and he will spot birds, identify plants and escort you on trails.
