Fiji Yasawa Islands Trip Report

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Thanks to the feedback received, I promised to post a trip report, at least that's what we do over in the Caribbean branch :-)

After a mix up with a hotel in the Mamanucas, we opted to head almost as far as you can go to Oarsman's Lodge on Nacula for the famous 'amazing' beach. It did not disappoint!! And having seen many a resort/hotel along the way, it would appear that you can pay $1000 a night and have a less attractive beach. I think it's important to know what you want out of your Fiji trip (food, activities, beach, comfort, ease of access, Internet), then do your research (Trip Advisor, can I say that?) and chose accordingly. You can pay $20-$5000 a night.

Oarsman's was a lovely, quiet, local run hotel. It was simple, kinda basic but the staff and food were lovely. check out Trip Advisor for reviews and more details

Other parts of the trip:
Ferry up to Yasawa - we opted to pay extra for Captain's lounge, they changed the ship. There was no lounge nor a discount. Lesson learned and we flew back with Turtle Air - worth every cent!

Stayed overnight at Tropic of Capricorn and was great. Simple but clean, had AC unit and fridge. On the beach with access to busier and nosier hotels.

I would easily return to both these hotels.

How would you compare your experience in the SP compared with your time in Carribean destinations you've visited?

I've spent time in both and wondered which one you preferred.
