Fijian Homestay

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hey there
I would really love to stay at a Fijian homestay for part of my trip in December/ january, over the new year period this year. Does anyone know how I can organise this?

I have emailed fijianfamiles.com but the email bounced back.

Thanks to you all

Looks like Fijibure is still in business http://www.fijibure.com/

Having just returned from a year of living/working in Fiji, perhaps we can be of some assistance to you. When are you planning on going to Fiji and to what area (Nadi, Suva, islands...).

Let u sknow as we do have contacts down in the country, however, just as a heads-up the idea of 'homestays' with local fijians isn't a big market down there as yet. There are many 'B&B' type operaqtions, high-end usually and owned/operated by foreign nationals who have figured out how to profit from foreign travellers spending the small fortune it usually takes to get there from N.America.

ANyway, with a little more info from you, perhaps we can assist.

Hey -

I am friends with a Fijian lady who has done this sort of thing before. She does not do it as a business, but through her woman's group called Yagara Womans Cooperative. you would be on your own, (ie. not much support) but I'm sure she could find a village on the bus line. let me know if you want me to put you in touch.

Hi, I live in Nadi.

Where you like to stay?

Nadi, Lautoka, Suva, pacific harbour or Malolo island?

I know several good host family.

FijiBure is not only still in business but the project is now achieving some amazing milestones for the indigenous Fijian community.

See: http://www.fijibure.com/namuamua/library.htm for their latest community project.

Just came back from Fiji in November and stayed at Namuamua - the village community are so excited by this latest venture by FijiBure.com
