First time to Fiji

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hello everyone,

I am looking to go to Fiji early August. I would like to go to Suva (where my grandad is from) but would also like to visit the islands. Being a young couple we don't have a lot of money to spend. Can anyone recommend accommodation that will not break the bank? Ideally it would be close to the beach, places to eat and have an ensuite (not shared). Is it easy to arrange transport around the islands?

Thanks!

from suva its easy and quick (only about 2 houres bus and boat) to get to "leleuvia" or "caqalai" island. beautiful islands, unbeatable value!
just google the island names for more info.

I would second the vote on Caqalai and Leleuvia. The accommodations are basic, with shared bathrooms and showers. We were at Caqalai last week, and everything was quite clean and wonderful. Great atmosphere and the BEST snorkeling I have ever had. Prices were $48 per person and included all meals and tea at 4PM. Bring a tent, and its $20 pp.

And if you have time and are interested in traditional Fijian culture, visit Navala village. Stay at Bulou's Lodge and visit the village with Tui. You'll be happy you did.

Good luck!
