Flights.....

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi everyone, i'm new to this so bear with me - me and a couple of friends are going to be going over to Australia at the end of 2008/beginning of 2009 - we'll be taking 6 weeks off work just for an extended holiday - planning to do 4 weeks on the east coast of Australia and then possibly a week in NZ and also a week in Fiji..... we know that we can't book anything yet as its quite far in advance but we are trying to price things up in general by looking for the same time this year - we'll be coming from the UK and when I went to Australia before, we booked our flight to Australia seperately to any internals because we got the internals cheap on Virginblue/jetstar sale.... so it worked out cheaper to do it this way...... but with Fiji, (i haven't been there before) I can't seem to find anything quite so cheap...... i'm not sure what the general price for a flight from Brisbane out to Nadi - virginblue are quoting around $500AUD - is that reasonable (return) - because if thats the case, i might be better off getting a multistop ticket from the UK and using that....

Any help would be greatly appreciated.....

Also, as an aside, we're mainly looking for the idyllic white beaches, clear amazingly blue/green water and maybe some snorkelling - any ideas on the best place to go in Fiji?

A multi-stop will generally be cheaper throughout the Pacific. There are occasional specials between Australia and Fiji/NZ, but you can't always count on them. Yes, AUD$500 is a standard price Aust/Fiji - sometimes more, sometimes less. At the moment, there are some great specials including accommodation in Fiji, but the political situation may have settled by the time you get there, so the prices will probably go back up again. Internal flights in Aust can still be quite cheap - I heard of a $1 (including taxes) ticket between Sydney and Melbourne a few days ago!

Thanks for the reply hun - thats what I thought about the multi-stop ticket - hmmmmm!!

What deals are they having at the moment on flights/accommodation??

I've been looking at other peoples links for accommodation - found some decent places, its just getting the best priced flights i want to do.....

The specials to and from Fiji/Aust. etc change frequently. You won;t know what they are until maybe three months before you want to go. Safest bet is to include Fiji on your RTW ticket if possible, it's usually a cheap or free add-on, if that carrier has it on its route, or it's on a route of an alliance partner.

Air NZ is offering multistop tickets which I wish I'd known about prior to our trip becasue it would have saved us a fortune...........

Looks like a RTW ticket may be the best option then!! Just need to find a decent RTW ticket.... read up on them!

And also find places to stay!

Very excited!! :)

I've done a few flights Bris to Nadi - last one $383 return! that only happens when a coup is mentioned! I'm trying to get one for christams but the cheapest is $800! It depends on the time you're going - school holidays way too expensive - yep $500 is average.

Lisa---if you can arrange for another coup, possibly late 2008, you can get a great bargain to Fiji from just about anywhere! Probably would just take a few phone calls, some rumours, a little cash, and you're all set! :)
