flooding

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Someone has just told me that there is flooding in fiji, and I can't find much information about it. I arrive there next week on 3rd April, does anyone know how it is affecting the islands and travel???

wont affect you at all.
flooded places ussually drain within hours after rains stop in worst case scenarios it may take a day or two. ussually downtown nadi and lautoka get flooded and rivver deltas, but the resorts or other tourist places rarely get flooded as waters drain off into the ocean right away.
at the moment cyclon becky is moving in southerly direction quite far to the west of fiji. you can most likely expect very nice weather in the first week of april

This year (in the so called wet season - and yes this was a wet season!) we had some flash floods in some areas (but believe it or not some areas still face a water shortage) - affected were low lying areas in Nadi/Lautoka, Suva and Labasa. Please do no expect the whole of Fiji to be flooded! Flooding occurs often because of poorly maintained drains and mostly it does not affect travel routes.
