Garden of the Sleeping Giant

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'll be staying in Nadi for a few days in August and would like to go to the Garden of the Sleeping Giant. LP says it's 6Km north of the airport then 2Km east on Wailoko Rd..

Can I catch a bus from Nadi to the junction with the Wailoko Rd and walk the rest? 2 Km isn't far. If so, is it a safe place to get off/wait for a bus

I'm not keen to do a guided tour as I'd prefer to spend as much time there as I want, not how long the tour guide wants, as I'm really into plants.

And my budget says a bus is better than paying for a taxi which would have to hang around to bring me back to Nadi

Thanks for any local advice.

Where you'd get off is a very busy road between Nadi and Lautoka, so of course it would be safe to get off and wait there.
I wouldn't worry about the walk either...

Thanks Laszlo. Sounds like there'll be quite frequent buses too, I guess anything heading for Lautoka will do?

2

Exactly. Not only buses, but also the nonstop minimbuses from Nadi to Lautoka - which could still stop to drop you there if you pay the fare to Lautoka anyway.

If you're going to walk, make an early start as August will be getting dark before 6pm. Also better to walk during the cooler part of the day. Roads not great, wear decent walking shoes.
