large, beautifull, lush tropical island. specatcular snorkelling and diving, only fijan villages there. one luxary resort not quite finished (www.bayofangels.com) actually for sale right now, local vesels serve the island twice weekly, one or two flights weekly with air fiji.
kid will propably be fine as the locals love kids and there are many kids in the villages. you can only stay there with locals, it would be a real village stay.
what makes you pick gau?

| anonymous05:57 UTC13 Jun 2007 | I live here on Viti Levu and love Gau. The island is fantastic with clean, clear water.
Do not be surprised if the flights get delayed either there or back, so don't schedule an international flight right after a domestic one to leave Fiji. And MAKE SURE when you leave that you are booked to come back on a flight, these flights to small outer islands get filled up since they don't run daily.
If you want to visit a village, buy some waka root on Viti Levu to take with you so they can make grog. It also might be a good idea to take some tea, canned meat, instant coffee or Milo. Stamps, pencils, pens, and school supplies are nice as well for the kids. These are really appreciated in the farther out places since they don't get to the main island much.
Hope you have fun, and your child will have so many 'aunties' to look after them - Fijians love children.
