Good beaches/easy-to-get-to resort for parents' first visit?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi,
My parents (late 50's) are planning to visit Fiji in July, having heard from us how wonderful it is!

They arrive in the evening, and have just 3 nights. They're looking for great beaches - but they feel that the Yasawas (where we stayed) are a little far for what would be just 2 nights by the time they got there.

Looking elsewhere on the main island, are there any good resorts with nice beaches? We stayed at the Naviti, but there wasn't much of a beach at this resort. Is this the case with all the Coral Coast resorts (Outrigger, Shangrila, etc) or just some? Are there other areas/resorts that aren't too remote, that do have good beaches?

Finally, are there any nice, fairly upscale resorts on the islands, not more than say 1hr by Yasawa Flyer from the mainland? We went to Waya, which took 2hrs by boat and so is farther than they'd like to go ideally.

Many thanks for any help!

A drive to a Coral Coast resort can take about the same time as a boat trip out to one of the islands.
The Coral Coast did not seem to have any good beaches that we could see and we went as far down the Coral Coast as Crusoes Resort which took hours to get to.
Why not get them to stay at somewhere close to the airport (we use Raffles Gateway) for the night they arrive and take a helicopter or seaplane out to say Treasure Island which has reasonable beaches the next morning.
If they want upscale fly to Vomo or somewhere like that.

The beaches (and there are a couple of large ones) at the Shangri La Fijian are gorgeous. That hotel is on its own little island connected via a bridge to the Coral Coast. Check out the hotel here.
