Good Snorkeling from Shore in early Nov.

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I am having the hardest time finding information on basic shore snorkeling.
Its my sole purpose of going to Fiji, is to snorkel. I dont mind doing a few
boat trips, perhaps to Namena, (anyone been?) But 9 days to just kinda
snorkel away. Everything that comes up is diving. Was thinking spending
3 days on the main island, then 5 in another group. So if anyone could recommend
some great spots that would be so helpful! Aloha, John O

I'd head for the Yasawas and come back when my flight leaves Nadi

Great snorkeling off Waya and Wayasewa Islands in the Yasawa Island chain (just look at the website for
the OctopusResort.com) Many of the reefs are in shallow water you can swim to in a couple minutes. Check out
Volivoli.com for the north shore of Vit iLevu. Taveuni has nice snorkeling just offshore from Matei toward the Somosomo Strait. There's great
skin diving throughout Fiji, actually. Because snorkeling only involves a mask, snorkel and fins as equipment-- there's
little commercial interest in promoting in contrast to scuba diving.

Snorkeling from the beach is also good at Matamanoa Island in the Mamanuca's.

I would also recommend Octopus Resort on Waya Island - great snorkeling from the beach. You could also have a look at Mana Island in the Mamanucas.

Thank you everyone. I did change my plans from Savusavu to the Octopus resort, and perhaps add an extra day to visit the blue lagoon further up north. Since it seems there is a ferry going up and down the island chain. Aloha and Mahalo for your kakua

The best off-the-beach snorkelling I encountered was at Blue Lagoon and Manta Ray. Octopus was also pretty good.

Manta Ray & Octopus did have some strong currents to be mindful of, but nothing dangerous.

Blue Lagoon. - really good. everywhere the coral is fairly bleached; nothing like some of the snorkelling i have done in hawaii, great barier reef and vanuatu - BUT it's not dreadful, and the fish are great. people rave about the manta ray snorkelling at Manta Ray resort ( check season though)
