Has anyone been to Bayside Resort in the Yasawa Islands?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

Hi...

I was wondering if anyone has stayed at the Bayside Resort in the Yasawa Islands?

I found it on line and it looks like exactly what I was looking for...just two bures and no electricity....$140.00F....is this on the expensive side for what we would be getting?

Anyone know of any other basic...real cultural stays?

What about things crawling through the windows at night....especially snakes?

Any suggestions on where to start on this kid of an adventure. We live in Florida and are open to any other destinations.

Thanks!!

I stayed at Bayside 3 years ago. It cost quite a bit less then -- the price included a bure and all meals. Very quiet (a rooster was the source of irritating noise) as I was the only person there, aside from the guy who ran the place and his wife . At the time, great value for money if you wanted to be on your own.

Best thing for you to do is compare prices NOW with other resorts. In principle, it should be as low as or lower than other low-end resorts (assuming they've all gone up in price). If not, then it's not worth it.

Be aware that bayside is about a half hour walk away from Yalobi village. If you wanted to stay closer to a village, better to go to the resort at Yalobi -- it's run by the sister of the guy who runs Bayside. Better low-tide swimming here as well.

Regarding crawly things: I don't think there are any snakes on Waya island. Stay under the mosquito net at night and that'll take care of any insects.

Have a look at my BLOG for other photos from around Fiji.

If you don't have your heart set on Fiji, and prefer no mod cons, check Lau Village Stay
This would cost about $30 US with all meals, but any transport is extra, as it costs heaps for fuel.
All money goes to the villagers.
