Help required for planning an itinerary in Fiji, 8 Days of travelsCountry forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
I am a 22 year old traveller and would like any help given in planning an itinerary for Fiji. I have only 8 days to make my way around ( plus the day i arrive into fiji at 4pm). I am flying both into and out of Nadi. If anyone can tell me what is really worth seeing around Fiji in my limited time it would be of great help. If anyone also has done this trip in this short time and can give me some pointers i would be greatly aprreicative. I am interested in a number of activities ranging from island hopping. local cultures and socialising with a few drinks! Thanks, tom
What's worth seeing and doing depends on what a person is interested in, and you've said nothing about that. But with only 8 days, it would be best to stay around the west end of Viti Levu. Do a bit of research on the Yasawas (eg invest in a guidebook) and pick an island which appeals to you. That, and a visit to the highlands national park (inland from Lautoka) for some hiking and visits to the 'traditional' villages there, will fill up your week. There's more than one person in the world who'd be more than content to spend an entire week on one or at most two islands.. it's up to you. Obviously, there are many more places to visit, even on Viti Levu, but the trade-off will be in the extra time needed to travel around. | 1
Hey Tom, Whether you are a backpacker or a luxury resort type, you have plenty of options in the Yasawa and Mamanuca island groups. If you have money to spend, I recommend a 3 or 4 night Blue Lagoon or Captain Cook cruise. They provide a good combo of nice beaches, culture, and scenery that Fiji is known for. Then rent a car and drive to Pacific Harbor (3 hours from Nadi) and raft the Upper Navua Gorge. www.oars.com. And do the shark dive if you are scuba certified. www.aquatrek.com. Then head back to Nadi and if you want to party, head to Beachcomber (you can do all but the cruise even if you are on a low budget). An altenative to the cruise is to take the Yasawa flier to some of the backpacker places. Enjoy!!! | 2
stay o/n nadi (dirty, boring) then the next morning go to Beachcomber and one or 2 more islands in the Yasawa and Mamanuca island groups. It's cheap and lots of young folks do it. ENjoy! | 3
Hi Tom - Connie and I went for 10 days. We booked some travel passes with Feejee Experience. To be honest it had its pros and cons. We would have preferred to have been more independent and you do feel a bit like a tourist. However, because they included a lot of attractions and we met loads of people (although they were other travellers). The Lei Low backpacker pass is an 8 day tour so might suit... Cheers. Jim. | 4
