Help
Have been asked to go to Fiji with children and grandchildren (1 year and 3 years old) for one week next March, April or May. We can be a bit flexible with time. Not sure about where to stay. Coral Coast sounds nice but after the flight with the little ones, not sure how they will go with the longish car ride after that. Also does somewhere like the Naviti or the Warwick have actual beaches that you can swim off from and the kids can play on or is it all coral reefs?? Some one suggested staying on Denarau Island but was told as that is a man made island the beaches are awful.
Basically looking for somewhere that they can play and swim on the beaches safely, resort is of a good standard.
Any advice more than welcome.
Thanks

Check out Mana Island Resort - the beaches are great for children and it is a very family friendly place. You can find many positive reviews on tripadvisor.com. If you decide to head out to one of the islands I would recommend overnighting at one of the hotels near the airport (Raffles Gateway being the closest) and getting the boat the next day - would be easier on the children.

I have stayed at both Naviti & Warwick a number of times over the past 2 years....
Naviti beach has a lot of rocks, not so much coral... The water & sand is also quite dirty... Not the kind of beach I would be comfortable letting my little kids play in (if I had kids)... During my 2 stays at Naviti in the past 3 months I didn't see any guests in the beach, they all seemed to be in the pool
Warwick has a much better beach... There is coral, but the beach is not over run with coral, so there are many spots that are coral free for the kids to play in.... The staff are also extremely good with kids... Living in Suva for the past 2 years I have been to many resorts along the Coral Coast & the Warwick is my favourite hands down... Great resort for all ages!!
I had a family member come visit from Melbourne about 6 months ago with her 2 year old daughter... Her daughter was fine with the drive after her flight... We did make a pit stop at one of the road side fruit stands for a snack & quick stretch of the legs though :)
FYI- there are no laws here for children car seats or booster seats so you will not find a taxi equipped with these (locals have their children sit on the parents lap)... If hiring a car or personal transfer you will need to request car seats (additional costs will apply)... Alternatively you can bring the car seats with you.
I would definitely avoid staying in Denarau!!!!!!!! The "beach" is horrible... Man made "beach" built on reclaimed swamp land!... Murky water & black sand... Ok for 1 night for transit but I would otherwise avoid
Wherever you decide to stay I'm sure you will enjoy your holiday :)

I didn't find the Coral Coast that nice, the beach at the Naviti is not recommendable.

As noted, Denarau is out.

An island would be much nicer in my opinion.

yes I agree - a night at raffles (right across the road from the airport) and then straight out to an island (one of the mamanucas is a quick boat ride) Coral coast beaches aren't crash hot - people tend to swim in the pool rather than the ocean - enjoy
