Honeymooners

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'm considering going to Fiji for a honey moon.

What islands are most known for their lack of people? Ideally I'd like to lie on the beach and swim everyday with my partner without the masses, or is it just a matter of finding a spot on the beach whereever you are, asssuming it's better to be off the main island.

Cheers.

If you're looking for romatic seclusion, I'd recommend the Cook Islands over Fiji. I've never been out of sight of another person while in Fiji. Most of the time in the outer islands in the Cooks we're all alone and very private. Air New Zealand has web specials to the Cooks from LAX.

I'd stay 2 nights in Rarotonga and 5-10 days on Aitutaki. On Aitutaki Gina's Beach lodge will give you an island with at least one beach, maybe the whole island, to yourself with fantastic swimming and snorkeling. On the main island the Etu Moana is a great place.

I'd split time between the two spots on Aitutaki so you can take in some island nights and some great food at Tapuna's.

Enjoy!

Fiji has plenty of islands without crowds and definitely plenty of less touristed ones than Rarotonga and Aitutaki in the Cooks, which ironically happen to be the 2 most visited islands there.

Try this one - if you can afford it! ;-)

Yes, I lived in the Cooks for 12 years, almost impossible to actually stay on a "deserted" beach. One can visit the islets (motu) on Aitutaki for the day, and yes, one can pay to stay overnight on two of them, but it's not cheap. See www.ck for more info.

Plenty of relatively deserted beaches in Fiji. It is, after all, about 10,000 times larger than the Cooks!

Try the smaller resorts in the Yasawas, or Ovalau and islets, or Kandavu, Taveuni, etc.

since my girlfriend and i recently went to taveuni, we made our promise to enjoy our honeymoon there when we get married.

taveuni really is a unique experience- a tropical paradise with heaps of activities (diving, fishing, waterfalls.....) and amazing people and culture.

we stayed at lomani which was beautiful for honeymooners. a private property overlooking the ocean with a pool, double outdoor stone shower and huge garden of tropical fruit trees.

almost as unique, romantic and private as taveuni.

there were other beautiful resorts there (taveuni island resort, maravu) but they were not as private and unique and were also expensive.

depends on what you are looking for but i thoroughly recommend taveuni. it is a very unique experience and i doubt for too much longer before development changes the experience.
