How expensive is Fiji?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

thankyou. ^^

As expensive as you like-if you have thousands to spend per night you can rent a whole island for yourself.

Or not.

Roughly twice as expensive as SE Asia.
At the bottom end of the scale, backpackers could live on US$ 30 a day IF watching their expenses.

You've already received two good replies. The bus system is good and you can find good seaside dorms with kitchens for approximtely $15 USD ($30 USD with meals). Food prices, overall, are not much different than U.S., with in-season fruit and vegetables lower and imported foods higher.

Here are some to two nice lower-end accomodations that give you an idea of prices:

Cagilai Island: http://www.owlfiji.com/caqalai.htm
Nananu-Ira Island, Charlie's Place: http://www.fiji.pacific-resorts.com/charlies/index.html

You can go halfway around the main island of Viti Levu by bus for approximately $10 USD. Taxies are approximately $1.00 USD per mile ($0.60 per km).
