How Important Is It to Treat Clothing with Permethrin, for Fiji?

Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji

I'll only be there, mostly in Suva, for 3 days enroute Australia. My medical people recommended it. Were they being overzealous? Is it necessary to prevent getting Zika etc?

I never did it and don't remember being troubled by mosquitos.

Thanks!
I did some garments, while waiting for a reply. But the stuff doesn't go very far, so it's good to know that I probably don't need to be deathly afraid if I wear something that wasn't treated :-)

there are different types of mosquitos in Suva, a small one that bites, but only causes discomfort, larger ones that can have dengue but are a different stripe look and only in specific areas , and the alerts say mosquitos with zika, but I only ever had repellent when i lived there.

Okey-doke. I did treat a couple outfits, it won't hurt I guess.
I was in India in an area where there was dengue, and actually didn't even see mosquitoes that time of year.
I have good repellant...
