How safe is Fiji?Country forums / Pacific Islands & Papua New Guinea / Fiji
From what I've read the political coop in Fiji has had little impact on tourists. Is this true? Is Fiji safe for a young woman to travel around by herself?
Quite safe-political machinations don't affect visitors in the least-except that concomitant lower numbers impact the business across the board. | 1
The coup does not directly affect tourism at all. Economy is a bit staggering now though which increases poverty and related crime rates (theft, robbery). You will be all safe in resorts but avoid to walk around by yourself at night, especially in dark alleys and such. Having said that - you should not do that anywhere anyway ... So nothing special to be afraid of. | 2
Reports from tourists who were in Fiji in the latest coup (and also those in previous coups) say that they were not adversely affected at all. | 3
I can only comment on the Yasawas/Mamanucas/Nadi areas, but I think those places are safe for a solo female, following normal precautions. I think you will feel comfortable. I met quite a few lone female travelers. We were two females, and never felt unsafe. I was there in Jan, shortly after the coup, and it did not affect our travel. | 4
